Every year the Modern Quilt Guild hosts a challenge for their annual modern quilting show, QuiltCon. Corvallis Modern Quilt Guild has participated the last three years. One of their guiding principles is giving back to organizations they believe in. They do this through four charity projects a year. This year they made and donated a quilt called “Stars Over the Willamette” to Benton Hospice Service.
For 2017, the colors were determined by the Modern Quilt Guild and the theme was "Scale." The Guild decided to use a traditional star block in three different sizes. Members were encouraged to play with scale within their own blocks as well. All the blocks in this quilt were made by members, the quilt was pieced by a member, quilted by a member and bound by a group of members!
Guild President, Courtney Holgate siad, "My favorite thing about the quilts we have created is how they have embodied team work and the support that we offer one another both in quilting and in life. We are so happy to be giving this quilt to Benton Hospice! Thank you for all that you do for our community."
Previous recipients of our quilts from QuiltCon are CARDV and ABC House. The Guild was established in 2013 and has, on average, 30 members from throughout Corvallis and surrounding communities.
Benton Hospice Service is honored to be the charity recipient of this gorgeous quilt which was presented to us at the May 11 meeting of the Guild. We wish to thank Corvallis Modern Quilt Guild members for their labor of love and for caring for people facing seriously ill and their families and caregivers.
