Luncheon & Presentation: Being Smart About Medications

Join Dr. Helen Kao for a presentation on how to be smart about medications. Learn about reasons why medications are prescribed and common pitfalls in medication management that you can help your loved one avoid. She’ll share steps to advocate for medication review and when to consider reducing or stopping medications. Learn strategies for medication resistance or difficulty swallowing. Helen Kao is Medical Director of Clinical Innovations at Lumina Hospice and Palliative Care in Corvallis, OR, and Professor of Medicine with the University of California San Francisco. She is board certified in internal medicine, geriatrics, and hospice & palliative medicine. Helen’s clinical work has focused on the care of frail, homebound, and vulnerable adults for over 15 years. She has particular interests in dementia, home-based care, and palliative care.
