Lumina Achieves Level 3: We Honor Veterans

Tuesday, January 22, 2019

Lumina Hospice & Palliative Care has achieved the We Honor Veterans Partner Level Three (out of four). We Honor Veterans (WHV) is an awareness campaign developed by National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization in collaboration with the Department of Veterans Affairs. Launched in September 2010, WHV was created to address the growing need for Veteran-centered care, especially as the need for access to hospice and palliative care by the aging Veterans population was growing.

Lumina is committed to providing the best possible care for Veterans in the best possible manner and setting. By recognizing the unique needs of our Veteran patients and their families, Lumina accompanies and guides them through their life stories towards a more peaceful ending.

By achieving Level Three Lumina has provided Veteran-centric education for staff and volunteers, and identifies patients with military experience. Lumina has built organizational capacity to provide quality care for Veterans, and has developed and strengthened relationships with state hospice organizations, VA medical centers and other Veteran organizations.

Lumina is currently working to achieve Level Four by developing and implementing a strategic work plan with the goal of increasing access to end-of-life care and improving the quality of that care for veterans in our community.

Founded as Benton Hospice Service in 1980, Lumina Hospice & Palliative Care is an independent, non-profit community resource providing responsive care for local residents nearing the end of life. Lumina ensures in-home comfort, compassion and control for every patient throughout their remaining days. Wherever home is.
