Do you sew and have an interest in helping those in need right now?

We are in Need of Fidget Blankets ASAP

Some patients on our service who are spending more time alone, and we have had several requests for fidget blankets .

A fidget blanket is a lap-size quilt that provides sensory and tactile stimulation for the restless hands of someone with Alzheimer's or other forms of dementia.  These washable busy blankets have embellishments such as zippers, loops, buttons, and laces, and various textures.  They must be safe, so everything must be securely sewed on.  They are beneficial because they can be constantly played with. They can be very calming and reduce anxiety.  In general, I would think many memory care facilities would find these useful, and we would love to gather many to share with facilities.

If you google "fidget quilt" you will find lots of examples, YouTube video tutorials and even some patterns.

Here is a great video:  Sit & Sew for Charity - Fidget Quilts for Alzheimer's Patients

(We liked that they added a tie to secure it to a wheelchair or hospital bed).
