Amy Baird, Social Services Clinical Manager
March is Social Work Month. This year the theme for Social Work Month is “The time is right for social work!” I’d like to think the time is always right for social work but, as the pandemic is entering a third year, there has never been a time when social workers are more needed. Social workers touch millions of lives each day and it is likely a social worker at some time will assist you, a family member, or a friend.
I have been incredibly proud of the work our social workers do at Lumina every day. Our bereavement program is primarily overseen by two social workers, Melissa and Julie. Our four other social workers: Kim, Tanya, Alison, and Lina, provide comprehensive assessments and ongoing support of our hospice and palliative care patients. Additionally, Alison and Lina co-facilitate groups in our Caregiver Support programs.
This year we’ve been excited to provide an educational opportunity to a current social work student, Christine. The need for social work services is only increasing and Lumina is excited to help Christine prepare for her career as a professional social worker.
Each day, our social workers empower our patients, their families and caregivers so they can live life to their fullest potential. I hope you’ll join me in thanking our social work team for all the work they do every day!
