On November 7th, 2023, Governor Tina Kotek proclaimed November as National Hospice & Palliative Care Month. The proclamation reads:
WHEREAS: Hospice and palliative care provide compassionate support and comfort to individuals facing life-limiting illnesses, enabling them to live with dignity and quality of life; and
WHEREAS: Oregon is committed to ensuring equitable access to healthcare services, acknowleding the importance of social equity and inclusivity in the delivery of care; and
WHEREAS: Disparities in access to hospice and palliative care services persist among our diverse communities, and addressing these disparities is essential to promote fairness in healthcare; and
WHEREAS: National Hospice and Palliative Care Month is an opportunity to raise awareness about the benefits of hospice and palliative care, encouraging early discussions about end-of-life care choices and fostering culture of understanding and empathy.
